夕の蝉時を気にして急ぎ足
the evening crickets
remind me of the time-
quickened steps

利道のたどたどしさや猫の夏
clatter, clattering
on the gravel path-
a cat's summer.

信号や犬を小脇にアロハシャツ
the traffic light-
a dog under the armpit
and aloha shirt.

夜店背に影の流れや七の月
the shadow of night shops
flow behind me,
July's moon.

花火待つ孤独の中のインド人
waiting for the fireworks,
an Indian man in his loneliness.

半月やざわめく人の夏の海
half moon,
the summer ocean
belongs to a noisy crowd.

連発で花火と風にスイングかな
fireworks in succession,
and the swing in the wind.

高ければなお良い俺の花火かな
the higher it gets,
the better it is-
my firework.

高ければ見上げる夢の花火かな
look up higher
as it rises,
the firework's like a dream.

アンコール花火は歓喜を描きをり
encore for firework
paints a portrait of joy

帰り道人の多さの浴衣かな
return trip,
a crowd people in yukata.

汗の香や列は駅まで宵の街
the scent of sweat
all the way to train station.

駅前の音楽家たちよ夏静か
musicians
in front of the train station-
a quiet summer.

人切れて駅のはずれの涼しさよ
void of people,
an unusual cool in the train station

わが家の夜の向日葵旅終る
sunflowers in my home at night-
the end of a journey.
